I have always been interested in working with fabrics, but it was an introduction to embroidery which set me in the direction of textile art. Having studied for a City and Guilds Diploma in Stitched Textiles at Dundee College, I decided to work at improving my drawing and painting skills by studying for an HNC in Contemporary Art Practice. This later course led me to explore the use of drawing techniques in my textile pieces, using my sewing machine to develop linear drawings, initially concentrating on black on white. More recently I have started to incorporate fabric paint techniques to take my work in a more colourful direction. My subjects are taken mainly from the natural world with animals, and more recently flowers providing inspiration.
